weather & roads
weather
being that we are situated in a temperate rain forest, the main weather experienced on this coast is – you guessed it – rain! All of the moisture on this Wet Coast is fantastic for the green landscape, but a coastal community really comes alive in the sun. While there is no guarantee ever for the weather and what to expect, there are resources that can provide a pretty good idea of what is to come.
- Channel 44 on your Television is the Weather Network. You can also check the weather by going to www.weathernetwork.com. Or visit www.weatheroffice.gc.ca and search Ucluelet.
- You can also call 725-3384 or 726-3415 for the Marine Weather and Forecast
- If you tune into our local radio at 99.5 FM they review the weather forecast frequently.
all of the above options are great for planning activities and travel, but the general rule of thumb out here is to be prepared and just go with it. Don’t let the weather interrupt your plans or dampen your spirits (pun intended)! Get out there and enjoy all this area has to offer.
roads
the stretch of road on Highway 4 between here and Port Alberni can be intimidating at the best of times if you are new to driving it. That is why it is important to be aware of the conditions or construction and give yourself ample time to reach your next destination.
- Channel 26 on your television broadcasts 99.5 FM – our local station that provides regular weather and road reports.
- Call 1-800-661-2324 for BC Highway Conditions. Log on to www.bchighway.com to check the status of Highway #4 and others on the island.
- Be prepared, take your time, and get there safe-we want to see you again.
surf
the pacific ocean is magnificent and deserves our respect. If a person forgets to respect the power of the ocean it can be a humbling and dangerous mistake. A handy tool to keep you aware and in check at the beach or in the surf is to regularly check the tide schedule. Ask us for a tide guide should one not be in this binder. Please leave Tide Guides in the binder for the use of future guests.
- Channel 26 on your television broadcasts 99.5 FM – our local station that provides regular weather, road reports, and surf reports. Call 726-3415 for the Marine Weather and Forecast
- Stop in at the Visitor’s Centre at the junction on the way into the park to check the tides or pick up a guide.
- Stop in at one of the local Surf Shops and get info on the swell, tides, and wind.
- Take lessons if you are a beginner. In the end it will be safer and easier if you do.
